Discover common causes of dull skin and some quick and simple changes you can make to your skincare routine and your lifestyle to see a difference. Join me in this 3-part series to where I expand on 9 common causes of dull tired looking skin and the solutions to help combat them.

1)   Pollution

We live in a world where we have lots of pollutants in the air, especially if you live in a city. This has an effect on your skin - causing free radicals. That’s a chemical reaction creating molecules missing an electron, that try to borrow a spare electron from healthy skin cells. The result is that cells become unstable, causing damage to the skin. This causes collagen damage which can lead to deepening lines and wrinkles and uneven skin tone which can look dull.

The Solution: Antioxidants, one of the most easily recognised is Vitamin E and it’s a powerful one. Antioxidants are able to neutralise free radicals and also protect the skin against future damage. Vitamin E is found in almost every Body Pure products and is also great for moisturising dry skin.

2)   DRY SKIN

As you’d expect dry skin is a common culprit of dull and tired looking skin - not to be confused with dehydrated skin, that we’ll cover soon. Dry skin is where the skin lacks oil. The lipid barrier, that sits on top of the skin protecting the deeper layers, can become impaired when there isn’t enough oil to hold the cells together. This can lead to skin irritation, redness and flaking. It can also leave the skin feeling and looking dull.

The Solution: Look for oil based ingredients like Safflower, Camellia and Tamanu oils to help to repair and rebuild the lipid barrier and sunflower and jojoba oils build a luminous skin barrier to brighten and protect the skin on the body. The rich and natural body butter by Body Pure for a decadently rich, deeply hydrating skin boost that surrounds the body in luxury.

3)   Not Cleansing

A major reason for dull looking skin can be a build-up of dirt, grime, oil and left over makeup that sits on top of the skin and clogs up pores. Over time this can rob us of our naturally radiant skin glow.

We love the double cleanse at Body Pure. The first cleanse is great for taking off makeup and removing surface dirt and grime. The second cleanse works to cleanse deeply, cleaning out pores and treating specific skin concerns. Using a cleanser with active ingredients suitable for your unique skin can help to restore and maintain your skin health. Try the Body Pure Cleansing Balm coupled with the Gentle Facial Wash for remarkable deep cleansing effectiveness.

4)   Overworked Eyes

Someone once said the windows are ‘the eyes to the soul’. Whilst that may or may not be the case, one thing that is true is that tired eyes can make your whole face look dull and tired. Sunlight exposure – which is also the main source of blue light - leads to premature ageing as we know. Our beloved devises are another major source of blue light. For most of us our phones and tablets are a necessity to everyday life but these are also source of some of the environmental damage on our skin. Dark circles, eye bags and dull tired eyes can have an effect on your overall skin radiance.

Before you tweak your skincare regime, address your tech and cover your phones and computers with a blue light shield. It’s a cheap fix and eliminates the need to worry about skincare or sunglasses when using your phone or tablet. Some phones have a setting that disables blue light in favour of yellow light ('night mode' or 'night-shift'), which makes it easier on your eyes and on your skin.

Use a broad spectrum, non-chemical mineral SPF 30, loaded with antioxidant-rich ingredients to help protect against the damaging effects of blue light.
